I write a lot about distraction and about how we are focused on other things instead of the moment. Sometimes maybe it isn’t always clear what the problem is with that. I wonder if people haven’t considered their lives in this way, then they might not perceive any danger in this at all.
Fundamentally though it comes down to this; we have this one life that we are living – do you want to miss any of it?
A lot of how our world is, particularly in our consumer culture of the West, feels designed to distract and mislead us.
I thought I’d share this useful Alan Watts talk “Music and Life” to highlight this. It’s only around 2 minutes long, but very nicely encapsulates the problem of not being present. And this talk is accompanied by a funny little Matt Stone and Trey Parker animation.
